About Keynote Poet Rafael Campo

Award-winning Cuban-American physician-poet Dr. Campo is the author of four collections of poetry as well as essays and a memoir. "I use as much poetry as I do medicine," says Dr. Campo, who practices at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston. He also teaches at his alma mater, Harvard Medical School. "I often invite patients to write to me -- write me a poem, write me a letter about how our visit went. And I tuck poems into the educational material I give them about their conditions." Dr. Campo is also visiting writer at Brandeis University.

Dr. Campo's keynote speech will address "The Poetry of Healing: A Personal Journey in Medicine and Literary Writing."
